An odd man once said: Perfection is the illusion that keeps us from finishing.

‘Fleet Foot’ Freddy was running the perfect race. This particular ultra-marathon had been a passion of Freddy’s since he could walk. It is a three-thousand mile trek from New York to Los Angeles. Freddy had been perfecting a technique where he could sleep as he ran. This sleep-run technique helped him build a lead of four days over his nearest competitor. Freddy had the incredible ability of closing his eyes and lucid dreaming. In this way he could continue running in his dream and his body would continue in real life. Upon waking, Freddy would simply open his eyes and keep on running.

On this morning however, ‘Fleet Foot’ Freddy opened his eyes in time to watch a competitor pass him. Before he became fully awake, yet another runner passed him as well. Six more runners passed Freddy before he realized his problem, he was running backwards. It was then that Freddy remembered his dream.

The night before, Freddy had arrived at the finish line just after midnight and because of the late hour, no one was the to greet him. His nearly perfect race was met by silence.
