An odd man once said: Life is a complex series of finding answers to our questions. With each answer found comes the discovery of more questions.
It was pitch black in the quiet of night. Saul spun the dial again. He brought his most trusty pair of night vision shades, so he needed no additional light.
Saul had been hired by the governor’s wife to break into her husband’s safe. Unfortunately, she didn’t know the combination, but she did assure Saul that the governor would be preoccupied with his mistress for at least four hours. This gave Saul plenty of time to noodle out the combination.
The governor’s wife, Lina, could barely hear Saul’s tinkering from her adjacent bedroom. Her stomach was an entanglement of jittered nerves, but she needed to possess the information from inside the safe so she could prove once and for all she was not going insane by the premonition she was having about her husband.
Saul wasn’t specifically told about what Lina wanted him to take, only that he would know it when he saw it.
Click.
The large vault door popped open. Saul looked at the door with calm wonder about what was on the other side. He knew that everything else was his, but his imagination was drawn more to that which Lina was so anxious to acquire. A slight glow illuminated from the safe as Saul pulled it open.
There was a stack of cash on the bottom of the safe, but Saul was drawn to something else deeper within. Saul stuck his head all the way in to get a better look and found something he didn’t expect.
Sensing Lina standing behind him, Saul removed his head from the safe and faced her. Saul nodded to Lina that what she was looking for was inside. Saul grabbed the stack of cash and left.
Prettying herself, Lina fluffed her hair and brushed her robe straight. She stepped to the safe and stuck her head inside. Lina’s eye-line quickly caught the governor’s gaze, only he was a strange alien form of himself.
The governor smiled innocently at his wife, putting her at ease.
“Are you from this planet?” she asked.
“Sometimes.” he responded.
Lina stepped into the safe and grabbed her husband’s hand.
“Me too.”
